Emotional Expression
The Self Expression category involves openly expressing feelings both verbally and non-verbally, through:
1. Words
2. Expression on our face
3. Tone and volume of speech
4. Body language
As for my verbal actions, I tend to choose my words very cautiously and carefully during conversations. My tone and volume of my voice may come off unconsciously as low or soft most of the time, due to this cautious behavior. Therefore, I do not tend to express myself emotionally in a great way.
On the other hand, my non-verbal expressions can sometimes give away how I feel about certain things. For example, my face can reveal how stressed and anxious I am in situations through my eye contact. This habit has been pointed out to me several times from who noticed it. I have been trying to identify situations where my face gets tensed, in order to learn how to be relaxed and control my expressions.
Overall, I am not very self-aware of all my expressions, but once they are pointed out to me I can recognize when they happen. I feel that this is an area I need to work on in order to improve my ability to control my emotional expressions.

Independence
Independence is another scale or aspect of Emotional Expression. Independent people avoid clinging to others in order to satisfy their own emotional needs. It might be described as a complete understanding of personal accountability tempered with a healthy inclusion of others emotionally open to relationship, ideas, and exchange without being emotionally dependent, self-reliant and self-directed in thought, feeling, and decision while able to acknowledge and include the wisdom of others.
My independence differs depending on the topic addressed. For example, I consider my thinking to be extremely self-directed. My ideas are based on my own process of thinking. I do not allow others to affect the way I think.
My decisions, on the other hand, are not always made by me. Minor things such as going out were things that I needed to get permission for, which changed recently. As my parents believe that I am a responsible person now, but not in largely decisions. Marriage for example is not entirely decided by me and needs other family decisions.
At work I can rely on myself most of the time to take decisions in order to achieve the things I want. I dislike depending on others to do the work I intend to do. Therefore, I consider myself independent in the overall concept of dependence.

Assertiveness
Assertiveness is an ability to take action in a positive, sincere, respectful, and confident way. Being assertive is a skill that I recognized my strength in. I consider myself to be extremely assertive when dealing with situations, communicate directly using language that is to the point, taking initiative, focusing on solutions, addressing problems, taking ownership of problems, and bringing the problems to a close.
I do not focus on winning more than negotiating changes to benefit myself and the other parties involved. I can stand up for my personal rights without being aggressive. Sometimes, I regret of saying, or wording my opinion in the wrong way in certain arguments which will lead to conflict or miss-understanding.
Therefore and when I started the Emotional Intelligence course; I learnt how to response much better to an argument gradually. This helped me at work as well as in the real life situations.
